EU Waste Framework Directive

The EU Waste Framework Directive defines when certain waste is no longer considered waste. This is done on the basis of end-of-waste criteria that offer a high level of environmental protection and are associated with ecological and economic benefits.
Possible categories of waste for which specifications and end-of-waste criteria should be developed are listed in the Waste Framework Directive.
This includes construction and demolition waste, certain ashes and slag, metal waste, granular rock material, tyres, textiles, compost, waste paper and glass. The end of waste status may be reached if the waste has already been sifted as a criterion for the end of waste status.
